Ways of Cleaning your Breast Pump

One of the primary concerns of mothers who are breastfeeding is how to clean their breast pump after use. Of course, mommies will want to employ safe and sanitary practices especially if they are using breast pumps to expel milk for their babies.

If you are using a manufactured breast pump from a company, it will most likely come with instructional material as to how to clean the breast pump. What you can do is to follow such instructions but if you have issues about it, then you can call their helpline or customer service number for clarification.

As for general tips on cleaning breast pumps, you have to keep in mind that not all parts are submergible in water. Electrical parts like outlets and batteries should never be cleaned using water, if you want to clean these parts then you have to use a clean, dry cloth.

Most breast pumps will need its parts removed from each other so that you can thoroughly clean it by using hot water and soap for at least 15-30 seconds. Other pumps are dishwasher-friendly but don’t assume that yours is, again you have to read the instructional material that comes with the breast pump.

Once you have cleaned your breast pump, try not to dry it with a towel because the towel can contain bacteria and germs that can contaminate your breast pump. If your breast pump is completely dry, then you can now assemble it ready for your next use.
