Lanolin as the Hidden Solution for Sore and Cracked Nipples

One of the possible problems facing breastfeeding mothers is the presence of sore and cracked nipples. This can be a painful and uncomfortable position to be caught in. Most of us don’t know that Lanolin, or more specifically keeping the moisture in, can help in healing dry and cracked nipples.

If you are suffering from dry and cracked skin areas, the best thing that you can do is to cover it up so that it doesn’t get infected. But you can’t do the same thing when it comes to your nipples. The adhesive properties of bandages nowadays can also do more harm to your cracked nipples instead of making it better.

Popular first-aid treatments for dry and cracked nipples include bringing in warm compress to the affected area. Tea bags and cabbage leaves were believed to heal this area, but these things will not work as a cure because they just provide immediate relief.

According to medical studies, lanolin works great in treating dry and cracked nipples. Lanolin is a waxy secretion of the sebaceous gland and is a common ingredient found in hand creams and lotions. Lanolin has the ability to trap natural moisture in to prevent skin from being dried up. It is highly recommended that breastfeeding mothers maintain moistness in the nipple area to avoid being plagued by dry and cracked nipples.
