What to Eat While Breastfeeding

Most mothers place utmost importance on their diet and food intake while they are breastfeeding. This is based on the belief that whatever the mother intakes, the baby will also get through the breast milk.

Although experts are singing a different tune saying that a mother’s diet does not have a direct effect on the breast milk quality that the baby is receiving. A mother can generally eat anything that she wants but she has to remember to eat in moderate quantities.

It is a famous belief that whatever the mother likes eating during the breastfeeding process will affect the baby’s taste for breast milk and will affect the eating habits and preferences of the baby throughout his adult life. For example, if you are very much into eating broccoli during your breastfeeding, then your baby will have an acquired taste for broccoli when he grows up. There are no scientific basis for this, but it is a common belief that mothers have.

Since you are expelling breast milk which is rich in calcium, your body might be also expelling the much-needed calcium required. Most breastfeeding mothers are increasing their calcium intake or taking calcium supplements so their body can keep up with the milk production.

Generally, there is nothing that you cannot eat while you are breastfeeding, but you have to remember that you have to keep everything in moderation. A healthy and balanced diet will surely help in the process, plus it will also do wonders for your own body.
